Forty-one per cent of the population in Devon is currently aged 50 or over – over 300,000 people. Twenty per cent of the population are 65 or over. This is higher than the UK average, and is projected to increase more rapidly than average. By 2028 over half of Devon’s population will be over 50 and the county will have the second highest proportion of people aged over 50 in the country. Devon’s population is also increasing in diversity – the Black and Minority Ethnic population has doubled over the last 10 years and is likely to triple over the next 10 years.
